Default Pothole story....with a Happy Ending!

Last Saturday I was heading into Pearl Harbor on H-1 (Hawaii's version of an Interstate). Now, Hawaii's roads are patched like crazy, patch on patch on patch. I found an almost 5-inch deep one that wasn't. Result?

2 bent left-side rims, 1 blown out tire, 1 tire I don't trust, 1 tire sensor destroyed(found it in 3 pieces in the tire), 1 cracked fog light. Luckily no body or suspension damage. Big thumbs up to Jaguar for building a TOUGH car. The alignment is still perfect.

Gieco is giving me enough to get the aftermarket rims I wanted. Thought about staying with the stock rims, but I've been wanting to go with these rims since I got the car. D'vinci Attivo's in 19 inch, staying with the stock size, 19's are big enough for me.

Keeping a stock rim from the right side for a spare, probably sell off the other two good rims. I'll post some pics on this thread when I get them installed.

Finally! After just over a month, my rims are in and installed. Apparently, D'vinci Had these rims in stock, but the offset was too high, so they sent them to be milled by 5 millimeters. I'm glad they didn't go 6 mil, but wish they had only taken 4. I have yet to see a rim CLOSER to the brake caliper. Seriously considering getting a spacer to move the wheels out just a little.

Sorry about the pics. Raining all morning, but wanted to get a few pics on here. I'll post more when I get the car detailed again.

I was wondering the same thing. Weird tire tread depth no?

The tyres look perfectly OK to me, and if I am not mistaken, have anti-kerbing shoulders to protect the rims.

Those are Bridgestone Blizzaks. Yes, they are a winter-performance tire. The last owner was up in Boston and put the last set on it. I stayed with them for 2 reasons...1), great all around tire....and 2), Leaving Hawaii in January, road trip from Los Angeles to south Georgia, with stops in Denver, then across I-70 to Harrisburg, IL to see my son. Plus, got friends up in the New England area. If I head up there in winter-time, I'm ready.

Default Pothole story

Hey MarlboroLTS how is the tread life on those Blizzacks? When the Blizzacks first came out they had a reputation for having a soft tread. I also remember installing them on Volvo's in the late 80s and feeling that they were squirrelly on dry pavement. Do you feel that they handle ok for a snow tire? I'm 20 miles north of Boston and I'm looking for rear snows for my '04 XJ8. Thanks George.

Don't know for sure how many miles the last owner put on the old set before I bought the car. When I get ready to put new treads on, I'll let you know.

It had 49,700 on it when I bought it, so it was at least on its 2nd set when I got it. Had an OEM Pirelli as a spare. Sitting on 61,130 right now.

Nice!!!
That setup came out a lot better than I thought it would. Too bad there's no understated-style body kit for the XJ.

Heres a stock photo of the tire I got. Great all-around, all weather tread. Not too luggy. Great grip, even out here.

Blizzak compounds are designed to run on low temp roads. If you are going to run those in HI then they should at least have nitrogen in them to help keep them cooler, grip better, and mitigate the increased wear. Do they?

Also, they look like they are at their limit of fitting the new rim width. What size are the tires and the rims?

255/40/19....factory size. The rims are 19x9.5.....one inch wider than the stock rims. I checked with Bridgestone on the recommended rim size for this size tire....8.5 to 9.5.....at the high limit. I will go with a 265 (most likely) next set, but this isn't bad, still handles great.

Don't know if the old set had nitrogen, no problems since I had the car here. Had the shop used nitrogen on this set.
