Power Steeing Pump, Urgent advice needed please!
Just taken my 03 4.2 X350 to a specialist to have the power steering pump replaced.
I'm told to get access, the aircon pipes have to be removed and the entire subframe has to be dropped!
Obviously this is a massive job and will cost a fortune - my Jag specialist is usually spot on but can this be right?
I'm in urgent need of some second opinions, anyone out there who can help please?

Well your going to have problems like this if you can't DIY the car's repairs? The cost will be high too.
Can you post a picture?
I replaced my PS pump on my old 2005 S Type-R without disturbing the AC system or dropping the sub-frame?
That car had the much more complicated SC 4.2L so more stuff in the way.
I will say what I found was to ignore the Jaguar instructions and look at it logically?
On the 4.2L V-8 you can gain a LOT of working room if you unbolt the motor mounts and use a block of wood under the oil pan and CAREFULLY jack the engine up.
Here is a thread on an S-Type changing the PS pump with some pictures. You can get some idea what's involved and I think your shop is not the best from what they told you? Note this car is an 4.2L NA engine like yours. So he did NOT jack the engine up and he was able to get the PS pump out. He also did not touch the sub frame or the AC system.
Also note my comments (I also posted as Tbird6) on where to get the new or rebuilt pump! This is another Lincoln LS part that is identical to the Jaguar pump. BUT note the date as it was back in 2015 and things might have changed over the years.

I'm not able to DIY sadly, or post pictures right now.
The mechanic said the job would have been easy on the 2.7 diesel engine for some reason - but not on a 4.2 petrol.
It's got to the point I may have to let the car go, never expected something like a power steering pump to push things over the edge!
Thanks for the reply

you can do these without removing anything with small enough hands but easier to loosen the ac compressor with the lines still on and set it aside. sub doesn’t need to be dropped or anything like that.
i would still charge book time of 3.5 hours and never give you a discount. do motor mounts at the same time to get your money’s worth
