Could someone explain to me the advantage of the electric trunk latch. I do understand and enjoy the release feature.
I've always wondered since I had the same on a Cadillac STS.
I take enough grief for driving a Jaguar, (in jest of coarse) it's downright embarrassing to tell someone how to close a frigging trunk so they won't slam it.
If I'm dropping someone at the airport for instance, I will jump out of the car and remove their luggage and close it gently myself just so I don't have to tell them not to slam the trunk closed. What exactly does the electric latch do for us other than create something else that can break! The trunk on my XK8 is just fine with no motor.

It's more of a luxury feature on high end cars. I agree, I could do without it but on a positive note I have never heard of anyone having an issue with it.

 

The later model does the job properly and has power raise and lower !
