That makes sense... like pulling a cork out of your exhaust system...

So there's a couple of X356 and X358 XJR's in the UK running the tune now.

And I got back today from a week in Japan and got a bit of a shock on the way home from the airport at how hard my XJR is pulling now (think highway overtaking).

Going to try the next revision of the 03-05 tune this week, so far we have not found the limits in IAT2 and ignition timing on the earlier engine with a pulley...

Nice work Cambo! I Sounds like the tune has added some good power. I was speaking to a STR owner over here in the UK who made 374rwhp with a bench tune from Viezu, 200 cell cats and a 6% pulley. This was on a mustang dyno on which a stock XFR made 420rwhp. I'm waiting for yours as I'm sure it'll be better! Although I should probably get new tyres first as I keep getting the TC light kick in even rolling

Yeah to be honest i'm not expecting to show you a dyno chart with outrageous numbers on it.

Last time i dyno'd my XJR it made 320rwhp, which actually is probably a very realistic number, given that these things only had 390hp at the crank when new, and mines got 180-odd thousand kms on it now.

The target for me is to run a 12.99 @ 110mph in this car, that will be the proof.

EDIT

However for the 2006-onward cars, yeah we expect to see some nice numbers, on the track and on the dyno.

I agree in that you can't really compare dyno results as they all read differently. I'd much rather see track mph too or vbox numbers etc.

I did drive a 510bhp XFR yesterday and was surprised (and pleased) to feel that it didn't feel faster than my STR when I went WOT and it actually felt like it had less low end torque. To verify that I did some timed rolling accelerations and they were identical. I really want to know what else I can squeeze out of the STR now with your tune and cats.

JagSTR2004, I would be very interested to seen photos if your T/S installation and may I ask who installed it? Thanks, Alec

Alec, PM me your email address and I'll send over a video of some rolling acceleration.

To be honest, there's nothing to look as it looks stock from the engine bay (unless you look carefully under the intake pipe). Avos has advised me some power is still on the table (you can spin the TS much faster than the Eaton without getting heat soak) so I'll be looking at doing that once I've improved the brakes and cooling. My acceleration on a roll is already faster than an E60 M5 with 507bhp and C63 AMG Black Series with 510bhp though, so I think I'm already over 500hp at the engine My indie installed, if you can fit a Eaton you can also do the TS as it's adapted to fit exactly in place of the stock Eaton.

Just thought I would add to this existing thread on what I have done and am doing.

I installed a Quaiffe LSD a while ago now and a HUGE difference for the good.

Am working on an X-pipe along with a resonator delete and thats both resonators but keeping stock mufflers.

Should have that finished in about a week.

Also want to install a meth/water injection system. Not so much for performance as for keeping things clean.

Default Update

Thought I would give an update on where I am.

The X-pipe in place of the two resonators was way to "raucous" a combination of very loud and just plain obnoxious.

So plan on putting back just the rear resonator with the x-pipe in place of the front resonator.

On U-tube there is a 2005 XJR with the two resonator deletes and an x-pipe that sounds ok but I guess it does not have 200 cel cats.

Anyway I completed installation of a Snow stage 2 water/meth kit. You will see that I sacrificed the cabin air filter for this installation. I also thought long and hard where to insert the injector nozzle.

The boost line to controller I connected to the SC bypass valve hose.

I do not have a "tune" to take advantage of this however I am hoping to be able to keep carbon deposits at bay as well as run on lower octane petrol.

Meth injection is waste if you cant tune for it...Adds 0 HP...

Higher HP was not my objective.

Cleaner combustion chambers/ valves/charge coolers etc was. Plus I should be able run easily on lower octane fuel.

Also at high revs under load I should not get much ignition retardation which does equal more usable hp.

Most people with XJRs with 65K plus have almost totally useless charge coolers if they do not have oil catch cans. So are running with way less hp than they think.

With no tune to advance my ignition I do not have to worry about running out of water/meth. Which is why I did not install the low level float in the tank.

TRUE BUT , the inherent cleaning may result in some lost pony's returning home .

I did complete my x-pipe install with the rear resonator back in place. So now I have a stock exhaust except for 200 cel cats and an x-pipe in place of the front resonator.

I still need some adjustment but overall I like the sound compared to stock and certainly better than total resonator delete.

When I have done the adjustments. I am waiting on two 2" band clamps.

I "chisled" two from the old exhaust only to find they are a fraction too wide!

So where I have them at present there is leakage.

How frequently does the engine management system on an XJR "dial back" ignition timing say on a hot day when accelerating?

Quite often and quite a bit. The stock tune is based on 95RON/91AKI fuel so it pulls timing more than it needs to if you're running 98RON/93AKI. Also the charge temps go up very quickly if you're at WOT for more than just a short pull.

I monitored the temps in the intercooler circuit one time at a 1000m airport sprint, was a hot day and the intercooler was 39°C at the start line, 1000m and 25seconds at WOT they were up near 80°C and the acceleration had really dropped off past 200kmh.

Thanks Cambo. So my thinking is that meth/water injection could help at least a little?
