Default Rain Sensing Wipers

Since I'm had my car the rain sensing wipers, when put on Auto and intermittent wipe, are not rain sensing. They just act as if they're on fastest speed intermittent.

So today I tried a new wiper control lever, but that didn't fix the problem. Could the problem be the rain sensor or the sensor module? Any ideas on what to try next in troubleshooting? Thanks.

You need the shop service manual so that you can go through the diagnostic steps for the problem. Otherwise you'll just keep throwing parts at it till it's fixed.

Be sure you know how they are turned on. Switch set to auto, handle up to the first position, one "flick wipe" to start the operation. Brandon

Hi kbeachy,

If Brandon's suggestion about stalk position doesn't work, you can check the electrical connection for the rain sensor, which is on the windshield glass behind the rear view mirror mounting bracket. It's possible the connector may have worked loose, or one of the wires may have broken.

It might also be worth checking for any kind of dirt or other obstruction over the sensor aperture at the top center of the windshield.

Cheers,

Don

I have the stalk set correctly for rain sensing operation. I don't see troubleshooting for the rain sensing function discussed in the DTIS manual.

I'll take a look at the sensor, though, and see whether there are any electrical or dirt problems. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Took the mirror down and discovered that the connector was disconnected to the rain sensor. Hooked it back in and now seems to be working correctly. That was a simple fix! Should have checked that to start with, but was able to return the replacement (used) wiper control arm that I had purchased off eBay.

some threads suggest the silicone can turn cloudy impeding the rain sensor sensitivity..so thought I'd try to reattach sensor to try to get the wipers to function in AUTO... as it seems they just run on a fairly fast intermittent when set to AUTO. I'm to the point where the back side of the sensor is exposed... but anyone have tips on how to detach the sensor from the windshield? just pry it away? I don't want to break the sensor or the windshield.

I've wondered this too - anybody? I notice that about half of my silicone is cloudy on my sensor. Looks like there might be two pieces?
