Default Reading Code connection problem

After getting the RP and CEL I decided to take the car to autozone so they can read the codes.

He tried several times, but "no link" never did get to read anything.

After that I tried to start the car and trans fault displayed and the gear wouldn't move out of park.

I turned the key off and started the car and was able to shift.

The CEL is still on, but the RP message went off.

Not sure what's going on.

Car has been parked for 4 months.

Failing or flattish battery at a guess.

Battery is not old, I disconnected battery before leaving for 4 months, then charged it to 12.7V before driving the car.

Another common issue is looseness or corrosion on ground studs and battery power connections throughout the car. I would suggest cleaning all the ones you can find in the engine bay and boot/trunk to see if that helps (the Electrical Guide tells you where they are, but most of them aren't hard to find). Disconnect the battery negative cable to be safe, then remove the nut from each ground, clean the nut, wire eyelet terminals and threaded stud, flush with zero-residue electrical contact cleaner, allow to dry then reassemble. The nuts should be tight but not over-tight, as some owners have broken the studs off the body, requiring a repair.

I have photos of the grounds in the engine bay and trunk but have not had a chance to edit and upload them.

Cheers,

Don
