Default Rear brakes

Last weekend I changed my rear pads, backed off the hand brake cable using the diagnostic tool, no problems there. Now what I should have done was checked to see that I could reset them before doing the brake job. I changed the pads which was not as easy as many on here have claimed, had issues making caliper to fit after installing the new pads.....had to get creative but pads were so tight I had to run about 30 miles before pads wore down a tad.I have a feeling I have the wrong disks......fitted by a previous owner....they will be changed next week.

Here is my question......I could not reset the handbrake....it would not calibrate.....whilst changing the pads I noticed some chaffing on both hand brake cables at a point where Jag engineers knew the cables would chaff....because they added protection.....a clip would have been better.....I just ordered two new cables from Jaguar ( for once they were the cheapest option)....so I will be changing them as soon as they turn up......anyone done this job and have any info about how to go about it......I’m assuming that the cable just clips on to actuator at one end and the caliper lever at the other.

Assuming you have a 2004 XJ8, did you retract the caliper pistons by rotating them clockwise?

Yes I should have added that, I have the tool from Harbour freight that does the job perfectly.
I read a post on here about not retracting them too much but ended up retracting them as far as Possible.
