rear corner parking sensor advice?

I have a non functioning right rear parking aid sensor as the result of someone hitting the rear bumper cover in a parking lot sometime. I bought a used sensor and have read that it can be changed by removing the tail light and replacing it by feel. I'd appreciate any advice on how to release the old one from whatever holds it in the bumper cover and photos would really be helpful. I suppose it could be just the connector, but won't know until I get a hand in there and I don't expect to be that lucky.
I had my front bumper cover off to chase a coolant leak and wish I had paid attention to how the front ones were attached (assuming the rear are held the same way) but unfortunately I didn't and I don't want to break any high dollar clips. Any advice will be appreciated.
BTW, the coolant leak appears to be gone and both electric pumps are now operational, so it was worth all the trouble and we should be set for the cold weather to come.
