Rear Parking Assist

Rear Parking Assist
Hey, maybe someone has the same problem. When I first bought my XJ8, the parking assist did not operate. A couple months later, it started to work perfectly out of nowhere. About 6 months ago, it stopped working again. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and the system is still not operating. Any troubleshooting tips would be great. I do not know where the module for the system is. I know a general area, I suspect near the rear wind screen, right hand side, behind the seat. I only figure that because when it was working, that was where the "beeping" noise was coming from. Help please.

Mine just stopped working so I looked into it a little. Put the car in reverse and listen to each sensor to see if it is clicking. If no clicking, that sensor is bad. If all click and there is no code, the speaker under the parcel shelf might be bad. If there is a code, the module behind the rear seat back may be bad.

The reverse parking aid module is on a network and fault codes can be 'read for current content position' as Jaguar calls it.
The system is SONIC so they do pulse a 'click' that can be felt with a soft touch of your finger tip or listened to with a stethoscope.
The speaker can also fail so you don't hear the sounds even though the system is operating correctly.
The early X100 and X308 systems are 'STAND ALONE' and are NOT on a network.

Okay. So, I checked out the clicking sound. It is there. I can hear it very well. I checked out the module and everything seems good to go. I got to the speaker for the system and it had no input to it. I put the vehicle in reverse and used my multimeter to check and see if there was a voltage input to the speaker. There was nothing. Any tips?

I checked the wiring from the speaker, as much as I could, all the way back to the module. I checked the output from the module, using the pins that would output to the speaker and there was nothing. That is all I know. Now, I have seen where people are saying they act up if the sensors are dirty. Could that cause this issue? I'm stumped.

I turned the car on, placed it in reverse. I went to the back of the vehicle and at each sensor, I listened for an audible clicking sound. Each had the sound. So, then I assumed that that part of the system was operating as it should. Next, I took the upholstered deck off, where the stock subs are, so I could get to the small speaker for the system. I checked the connection, no corrosion or anything of that sort. I connected my DVM (digital multimeter) to the pins in the plug, while the car was in reverse, I did not see any voltage there. I then attached a small speaker to the pins in the place of the cars stock speaker for the rear parking assist. There was no "beeping" sounds. Next, I had a friend help me, I ohmed out the wiring. Setting my DVM to ohms, I put one test lead on one end of the wiring, the end at the speaker, and the other lead to the appropriate pin at the control I/o (input/output) module, the little black box in the trunk. There were no opens in the wiring from the box to the speaker. Assuming the sensors were operational, and the wiring to the speaker and the speaker itself are good, I then assume that the module for the parking assist as faulted.

Max is 24 inches (60 cm) on the corners and 63 inches (160 cm ) in the rear. Have you checked for a stored fault code? Object has to be less than 12 inches for a continuous tone. Do you have front also?
You said you replaced a blown fuse. That may well mean the module had an internal problem. I assume the new fuse did not blow?

parking assist
I have both front and rear parking assist on my 07 XJ8 and when I first put it in gear I get a 3 second tone. The manuel says it means a fault in the system, I was just going to live with it till I bring it in for 60K service but now it's going off alot when at trafic lights. I then have to manuely turn it off. Is there a way to just disable the system completely?

USMC1211, did you ever get this resolved? If so, what was the resolution? I have a similar problem on my 2004 XJ8: faint (but certainly audible) clicking from each sensor, but no sound from speaker. I swapped the control module with no change in behavior. I attached another miniature speaker (ironically, from an after-market backup sensor system), and I hear constant ticking coming from the new speaker whenever the car is on, no matter whether it's in Park, Drive, or Reverse. Multi-meter shows 12V at the speaker all the time. Wondering if I should replace the speaker with a correct one in hopes that it'll work?
