Rear Speaker Inhibit: Any Fix?
Advice please from Jag audio guru's:
- No sound from ANY of the six "midbase" speakers. If I fade to rear only, sole sound is from subwoofer. Dash speakers are working.
- Found that "Rear Speaker" icon in dash screen menu is highlighted, and won't turn off. Played with the rear seat armrest m'media controls, but no luck.
- Pulled the forward trunk trim and confirmed no power to either rear deck speaker.
- (Not sure if this is related) Also, trunk CD changer has been dodgy last couple of years; "CDC Not Avail" message. Reloading cd cassette makes it work again for a few days
I've searched forum threads without much luck. My modest hunch is failing fiber optic connection(s) or amp?
Appreciate any help...

Don't know about power to rear deck speakers but the solder connections in the doors are known failure points. They typically can be repaired by re-soldering small jumper wires across the corroded solder connections. There are several threads on the door speakers. All 4 of my door speakers had failed, and in 3 of the 4 cases it was the solder connections. In one case the speaker itself had failed and I replaced it with an aftermarket speaker.

Thanks (and, you're dead right!)
So, I knew the dr door speaker was out. Thought the others were working. Simply could not believe that all four door speakers had failed, so assumed some system problem,
After lots of monkeying around, found four bad speakers; one in each door (lower ones; mid base).
The voice coil wires didn't look bad, but jumpering around the glue posts fixed every one.
Sounds better now...

A standard 6.5 inch speaker will fit perfectly, if you rip the cone and center out of the stock speaker and use its frame as a mount for the replacement speaker. Cut the cone out, and cut the plastic arms carrying the voice coil, and you have a perfect mount for an aftermarket speaker, and never have to deal with the corrosion factor again. Not to mention, probably much better sound!

Actually, the door speakers looked pretty good (unlike I expected).
Having learned the hard way on other cars, I believe that matching both impedance and efficiency on the Jag might be tough. My experience with substituting aftermarket speakers is they tend to have much lower sound volume than the flimsy but efficient factory items
Great advice about how to mount 'em, though. And, perfect for serious audiophiles who can work through the various issues...
