I'm in the process of de-rusting and coating as much of the rear subframe as I can get to without removing it. I’d like to remove the rear cross brace for cleaning and painting, I have the rear of the car on ramps, all the bolts have loosened but is it safe to remove the brace as it is?
Also, the two large bolts - that go through the rubber subframe mounts, do they have nuts at the other end or are they screwed into the car body? I had a look through the service sheets but can’t find any detail on this.

Default Rear Subframe Captive NutsHi
Recently tried to replace a rusted through NVH brace which is secured by the front rear subframe bolts ,when trying to undo the bolts the captive nuts started spinning inside the chassis mounts .
the bolts and captive nuts are rusted solid and it is virtually impossible to get access inside the mounts , the subframe bolts are now loose , any info on how to overcome gratefully received .
I managed to remove the bolts from the front subframe mounts. I don’t think it would have been possible without the induction heater. Thankfully, when I originally attempted to remove them I paused thankfully not damaging the nut ‘clip’ too much.
The heater got the exposed part of the bolt cherry red, after that it was a doddle.
