Question Replacing center caps

I took out my 2005 SUPER V8 on saturday after 5 long months of winter hibernation, and noticed that the center caps on the factory 19 '' mags were dull . my question is does anyone know how to remove them? are they just clipped on ? do i need a special*tool ?
i ve seen oem replacements on ebay but want to know how easy it is to remove and install before i get them.

thanx

I have the same wheels on my 05 VDP. One of my caps is faded too.

They are plastic and held in by four tabs. The proper way to remove them would be to remove the wheels and gently pop the caps out from the backside.

If you plan to throw out the old ones then you could always split the plastic caps from the outside and then remove the pieces. That would be faster for sure since you would not have to remove the wheels.

The new ones pop in from the outside anyway.

I have been able to remove them by grabbing them with my fingernails using two hands. The ones that came on my 04 XJ8 were very loose and the dealer replaced them under warranty just before it was up.

If you want them to stay in place, you may need to put electrical tape around the new caps to keep them from spinning.

Default Removing Center cap

I have the same issue. I noticed only one of my centercaps is faded and I'm trying to figure out why. Mine all come off with only slight pressure. Here's a clip pulling the faded one off.
