Replacing Halogen Headlamp Assemblies with Xenon HID
#21
Hi XJ8JR,
I would like to come back to this topic again. I have a RHD car in Germany with standard halogen lights which I bought in the UK. There is no chance to convert them to LHD as I tried Google up and down. New or used LHD lights are horrible expensive, so I want to convert the build in halogen reflectors to projector lights, trying to use a halogen bulb first, maybe than upgrade to HID. I need a LHD light with the cut-off for the German TÜV, same as English MOT....
Do you still know, which type/ brand of reflector you have used? You are noting, that it was complicated to open the housing. Did you try to heat it up in an oven? Was the mounting of the new projector a "plug & play" or did you need to modefy the old reflector, cut it out with a Dremel,.... Would be great to get some good advices from you before opening the lights :-)

Heating the assemblies in the oven probably would've made it easier. I spent hours carefully prying them apart with screwdrivers, knives, anything thin and strong enough.
You'll have to cut away the stock bulb housing (the bit that extends out from the center of the assembly) in order to make way for the projectors.
I used plenty of RTV sealant to seal the assemblies back together. Everything still works and looks great more than two years later.
