I had this happen recently - check engine light came on along with the "restricted performance" message and an amber light. the message comes and goes, but the check engine light stays on. in my case it is not running rough, and the performance seems no different than normal. I did fill it up that day, but with exxon premium, and I drove about 200 miles before it came on.
Waiting to borrow a code reader from a friend, but I'm wondering if maybe my fuel cap is on its way out or something flaky like that...

yikes! I haven't had the codes read by a scanner yet, but i did pull B2139, B2879, U2510 and U2511 from the instrument cluster diagnostic routine. I have another thread open trying to figure out what the codes in that combination might tell me...
As far as p0307.... p0300 possible causes are listed as
ECM to ignition coil primary circuit
fault (Cylinder misfire detected DTC
also flagged)
Random misfire detected
Fuel injector circuit fault(s) (Injector
DTCs also flagged)
Ignition coil failure
Spark plug failure / fouled / incorrect
gap
Cylinder compression low
Fuel delivery pressure (low / high)
Fuel injector(s) restricted / leaking
Fuel injector(s) continuously open
Fuel contamination
Worn camshaft / broken valve
spring(s)
So i wonder how they arrived at ECM if its just a misfire in cyl 7?

You must locate and correct the misfire(s) or permanent catalyst damage is the result.
Under no circumstances is the vehicle to be operated under conditions that cause the MIL to flash.
The attachment below shows the AJ-V8 cylinder previous and ISO numbering schemes.
Following a cold-soak, remove the coils and see if they are oil-fouled. If so, the spark plugs, cam cover gasket and spark boss seals must be replaced along with the coils that were covered in oil as they may be shorted.

Given the age of the vehicle and the number of kilometres/miles driven, replace the battery once you correct the misfire(s). The PCM and all sensors require at least 12.4 volts to function correctly. If the battery shows less than 12.4 volts with the ignition in the off position, the battery must be replaced.

I've replied there that you should ignore the cluster (ETM) codes. Nothing ever clears them except a specialist tool so they can be as old as the car and frankly wrong. (Mine are at least 7 years out of date as they were there when I got the car and still are there. Useless but easy to ignore.)
