Default Retrofitting Adaptive Cruise Control to 2004 XJR

Was wondering about the feasibility of retrofitting Adaptive Cruise Control to 2004 XJR.

Has anyone done it?

Is the loom likely to have the necessary connectors or do Jaguar have lots of different versions of the loom?

Are all the components "keyed" to the car?

Thanks for all info. Totally new to Jags so haven't a clue. Teach me lol.

The question has been asked previously with regard to other Jaguar models. The main harness is likely to be compatible provided it's in the same VIN range but it will be missing sub-harnesses to the sensor and module.

The ACC switchpack on the steering wheel is also ACC specific and there's likely to be harness differences there too.

Others who have considered an ACC retrofit have given up but if you are prepared to throw sufficient money at it, anything can be done.

This is how you implement ACC.
<pause>
Buy a car with ACC already.

Apart from what's been mentioned already, there's a different switch in the lower control panel, and ACC requires programming in the (ECU module?) which requires dealer-level tools. And knowledge.

had nothing but trouble with my ACC on my 2004 Super V8, it went wrong a couple of years ago. The local dealer and two car electric specialists could not solve the issues and we tried a couple of replacement units.
I still cannot get the warning light switched off and have given up after many many expensive hours have not worked in sorting the issue out.
The units do have to be "paired " wit the car

Looking at the parts guide, I see that the ABS block is also different between normal or no cruise and with ACC. It may be because autonomous braking is required by the ACC.

The Acc is in its operation "of its time" very clumsy and intrusive in its actions and application of brake force. When mine passes i will revert to standard cruise.

When I had my 2005 XJR the adaptive cruise control worked perfectly with no issues although I did not use it that often.

Having said that the car was in exceptional condition compared with many that I see mentioned on here.

Probably too many issues to try a retrofit.

I even looked at retrofitting it on my 2013 Range Rover Sport HSE however compared to the XJR it is truly a way more dofficult vehicle to do DIY work on.

Tried changing the main fan belt on it and gave up after hours of wasted time. No wonder the dealer cost for this is extremely high. At least it is good for another 10k....I think.

Kinda regret selling the XJR!

[QUOTE=xalty;2436718]just delete it

there’s a couple ways to do it

The local company initially tried and they had someone that was rarely beaten with electronics, however when they could not do it they took it to another guy in Southampton who apparently was an absolute wizard but for some reason he could not delete it either. On both counts there was no charge as they had a no fix no fee policy.
With a few other issues on friends cars the local company was absolutely brilliant and I had known them for maybe 20 years or more.
Really strange they could not delete it though.

thank you so much, Tom Lenthal is less than 1/2 hour from me. I will definitely contact him.
I collect my car this week from some other work so will arrange to see him about the ACC
