Default Reverse Gear Park Assist Alarm Sounds

I am getting loud sound when I put my car in the reverse gear. One thing I observed is when climate is hot or when I go for a long drive sensors work fine.
Does someone have a solution to this issue? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your post is a little difficult to follow. Describe the noise in detail. You mention sensors working fine, but which sensors and how do you think they are related to the noise you hear?

If you hear a long beep tone (about 4 - 5 seconds) when going into reverse, you have a fault in the reverse parking aid system. This will require you to obtain the code(s) from a dealer level scanner.

Since its intermittent - could be a loose connection at one of the sensors, but the rear bumper will need to be dropped to access harness/sensors.

Thank you abonano.

Yes, I have problem with a long beep tone. I am waiting for the engine oil change. Is there any way I can to switch off the noise temporarily, e.g. remove the fuse, until I go to a repair shop?

Anant,

If your car also has a front parking assist system, you should have a switch in the overhead console marked with the letter "P." You can press that button to disable the park assist system, but you have to press it every time you start the car.

If I understand correctly, cars that only have the rear park assist system do not have the overhead switch. I don't know if the park assist system can be disabled using the dealer-level diagnostic system (JLR SDD), but a dealer can tell you.

You may be able to tell if one of the park assist sensors in the rear bumper is not operating by turning the key to Position II (Ignition ON) without starting the engine. With the transmission in PARK, step out of the car and go listen to each of the four sensors. If a sensor is working, it will make a faint clicking sound. If one sensor makes no sound, you've found your problem. It may be the sensor, or as abonano mentioned, it may just be the electrical connection to the sensor, but either way the bumper cover must be removed to access the sensors.

It is very helpful if you add your car's details to your signature so others don't have to guess what model you're inquiring about. Hover your cursor over your username in the upper right corner of this page, and in the dropdown menu click User CP. In your Control Panel, click on Edit Signature in the left column under Settings & Options. Add your car's year, model and engine displacement, then click Save Signature.

Cheers,

Don

Hello Don, Thank you for the suggestions. My car 2005 XJ8 L has the rear park assist system. I will check the sensors, but as this system works conditionally it looks like an electrical connection problem.

Hello meirion1, I will check the handbook.

The sensors themselves can can be faulty intermittently.

If you have a continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeep when in reverse ie until you take it out of

reverse, you have two faulty sensors.

I did this and the system stopped annoying me, but it looks like this circuit also controls the electric parking brake. It prompted a parking brake fault, but I was able to get that to go away after reinstalling the fuse and disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to get it back into relearn mode. I just need to figure out which sensors are bad because mine intermittently work as well. They always work when it's raining for some reason.

Anant,

My car is doing the samething, mine is an 05 XJR. Long beep with rear park assist working intermittantly. I am going to check out with the WDS and see what codes if any are present. Have you cured your issue?

Hello Woodford Jag,

As Don suggested, I put the car in reverse gear without starting the engine and found that two faulty sensors in center don't work (no clicking noise)! I am going to replace them.

Anant,

Great that you found your issue, mine works randomly. I need to check the sensors. When my WDS was working it gave me a code ( cant remember the number) that indicated that there was a ground issue. My WDS has crashed again, so I ordered a JLR/SSD. Will let you know how it works out.
