reverse parking assist not working X358 '06 XJR
so my new to me 2006 XJR rear park assist stopped working It worked when I got it. When I put it in reverse I hear a long 5 second beep from the rear. Manual says that the long beep is a system failure warning. I noticed a red light comes on on the parking assist on off switch, as well. I've seen posts here that say to check the sensors for clicking sound, with key in run position and car in reverse. All 4 made no sound. I checked the front and heard the clicking to know what sound I was listening for. The chance seems remote that all 4 sensors would fail together. I assume the speaker for the warning beep is the same for the beeps when its working normally, so that's not the problem(?).The car was hand washed a few weeks back, not sure if problem started before or after that. Is there a way to check the module in the trunk is good or bad? What else could it be? There is no dirt on those sensors either.
Help me please!

You're really just guessing without a scanner. You can take the module out, then what? I'm not trying to sound harsh but you need a scanner to DIY on this car.
Very few out there that read all of Jaguar codes and your auto parts store versions just read generic faulty engine codes that every car has under OBDII standards, not body or chassis.
You've got a couple of cheap options on Amazon. Foxwell 510 should get the job done or the iCarsoft. Both priced about the same. I have no direct experience with either model, but others have claimed they read all Jag codes. A couple of uses and it pays for itself.
I have the genuine SDD from Jaguar but for the shade tree mechanic, it's probably not worth spending the $800 for a used one.

I spent less than $150 on a British Diagnostics version of JLR SDD including a genuine Mongoose cable and a Dell laptop with Windows XP.
All bought piecemeal.
The laptop was $50 on Ebay delivered.
The Mongoose cable was on sale from Drew Technologies. I am not convinced it is genuine.
I use it for diagnostics. I have used it for suspension leveling however I would only use it for a reflash of a unit where I "had nothing to lose".
I am going to use it to program a hitch wiring kit on my Range Rover Sport in the next few days.
Oh and I do have a proper battery support device for lengthy work such as suspension leveling.
The Mongoose cable is my 2nd one as the first bit the dust a definite clone.

Mine has just done the same, all was working fine till a few days ago, now I get a solid beep and the red light on the overhead, I have a Snap-on hand held scanner, which shows no codes at present, it's a bit of a pain as on some cars it shows nothing, others I get just engine codes, on my jag, I get engine, abs and transmission codes. I have listened at the rear sensors and got no chirping, didn't bother with the front, but will check those in the morning. I have been looking for a better scanner, Ideally I would like to get my hands on an SDD system, and when I look at the Foxwell and Icar systems, I think by the time I pay for one of those I could maybe pick up an SDD for a few quid more.

If anyone's interested, I'll unload my autoenginuity VCM and cable. It has both the Mercedes Benz OE interface module as well as the Jaguar interface module.
I have the SDD OEM equipment so I don't need it. I also no longer have the MB but it's still valuable. I Paid $800 for it new with both modules. You can check it out here and contact them with questions. PM me if you want to buy. $300 obo plus shipping. Original box and manual as well.
License transfers to you.
Next to OEM, this is the best scanning software IMO.

When I first bought my Jag years ago I had a solid beep when in reverse and this is how
I solved it.
Drop rear bumper with all sensors connected
Engine running, handbrake on, reverse selected (very dodgy)!
I replaced sensors one by one until beep stopped,I had to replace two sensors.
You can do this with ign pos,n 2 but I did not know that at the time!

My BIG issue with the JLR SDD software is the fact that it takes for ever to set up.
Also if you want to install another previous version it is almost impossible to uninstall the newer version.
Spent many hours this weekend doing just that because a newer version did not load properly.

I've never had to upgrade the software. I have the last version Jaguar produced for the tech used in my car (2012 when they changed their systems from SDD).
I like the handhelds (icarsoft) for reading and clearing codes but you want live data captures, reprogram modules, and deep dives on issues, OEM is the way to go.
That said, for the shade tree activity, the icarsoft LR or i930.

I believe you are correct Sean, except for comment about my skill.
I do have one version of the software running just fine for now and am waiting on the i930.
I ordered the i930 on Ebay from someone in North Carolina where Ebat stated the item was located. Guess what... I am waiting on delivery from China thru DHL.
I know it is made in China but I deliberately chose a location in the US for faster delivery!

Just bought a Foxwell NT644 Pro, £395 from Machine Mart, ordered Sat morning, I know it's Chinese too, but like Jackra_1, I wanted a fast delivery, once I had placed the order it came back with, " your order will be delivered by 29th Dec ", and I thought SERIOUSLY?. But it came yesterday, thank god, SO I hooked it up and it scanned the entire car, every system, came back with about 60 DTC's, most historical and a lot to do with low voltage, possible because the battery had been a bit low and I changed it. I cleared all codes, but not til I had "analysed" every one. Rescanned and came up with
B1940 Seat Memory Position out of range
C1718 Front Left Center Sensor -Circuit Failure ( Parking aid )
B2477 Control Module Configuration Failure ( Radio module? ) I think.
The seat, I couldn't car less about, it seems to work fine to me, and the radio too, The Parking aid, is faulty, but now it's pinpointed the fault, it's shouldn't be for long.
The NT644 is, so far, looking good, lifetime updates, and over 50 makes covered, and as I had hoped, every system on the Jag covered. I have several other cars and do a lot fo repairs for others, so going with the " jaguar " only version of the tool was never going to work for me.
