Default Serius Radio removal

I don't subscribe to the Serius entertanmnet service, so I would like to remove the factory installed Serius tuner that takes up a position where other cars without it have an ashtray. I have already purchased a used wood covered ashtray module. My issue is how do you remove the presently installed Serius unitl? I was able to unsnap but only partially lift the black face panel because complete removal is restricted by the length of the cig lighter base. Underneath the faceplate, I can see that the tuner is pretty welll fixed in place. Am I using the wrong approach to remove the unit or is it permanently fixed and an attempt to replace it with the ashtray module not an available option?

You will probably need to take out the centre console to give more access.

I removed the Serius system on my 05 car. You definitely need to remove the center console to remove the head unit and replace the ash tray assembly. There are a couple of good write-ups on this forum on how to do that. I removed all the modules in the trunk as well. That's not necessary but I would at least de-power them. This project should be no problem for anyone with basic mechanical skills.

Good Luck

I took my 06 VDP to an audio shop guy, $ 100.00. I didn't do it myself because something related with the antenna wiring. The audio guy scratched the wood but that's a different story. That Sirius p.o.s, looked like an aftermarket addition, ugly and useless.
