Serpentine belt access question
Hey everyone,
Fixing a few issues on the XJ8. Noticed the serpentine belt is so bad that it could fail at anytime. Has anyone done this job themselves? Is it a pretty serious job? Seems like a lot of parts need to be taken off to get access. Also any special tools required?
Also, looking at partsgeek I see 2 belt options.... Multi Rib Belt & Accessory drive belt. I'm assuming the serpentine is the accessory drive belt but just wanted confirmation on that if anyone knows.

It can be done, I actually had to do mine in the parking lot at work
The first time is a bit of a bear. Wait for the engine to be cold. Remove the air filter box and that will open loads of space. It is tight getting it around the alternator and the idler, you'll be using the braille method for the most part. A long (24") screwdriver is a big help. Get it routed around everything but the power steering pump. When it's set, pull back the tensioner and get it around the p/s, then it should be good. Before starting make sure the belt is seated correctly on all the pulleys.
There should be just one belt option for the XJ8. The XJR should have a separate S/C belt. I went with a nice Gates belt. Tried a Dayco and that resulted in me having to do it a 2nd time in the parking lot...
