Setting radio presets - troubles
My 2005 XJR has the 6 disc changer and Nav system stereo. When I set the radio presets, the unit grabs whatever data is coming across with the radio transmission (title, artist, station ID) and displays 8 characters worth of it on the preset buttons on the screen. It does this also each time the car is restarted. The net effect is that the preset buttons display different gibberish every time I drive the car. While occasionally entertaining, it is rather annoying. Is there a way to actually lock the presets to display the radio frequency on the button?

Mines exactly the same. I thought it was supposed to do this like a scrolling Message of what is playing over the station. Its part of the RDS (Radio Data System) and can be controlled by turning RDS off by:
To control RDS...
with radio on, press the am/fm button and the eject button at the same time to get to the screen you need.

Yes, this worked nicely, buttons now display proper frequency. I see the scrolling data that used to cross the top bar is gone though, I guess you can't get the scrolling and also display proper frequency data. Another Jaguar quirk, I guess.
Like pushing the am-fm button and the eject button at the same time - who would ever think to do that?
Thanks for the help Trosty.

I understand that the data sent on RDS by the transmitting station is not the same in US as in Europe and RoW.
Over here it picks up, displays, and retains the station ident.
