shakey steering wheel when braking
Hello,
i own a 2005 jag super v8, all is fine but recently have noticed that when i apply brakes at medium TO HIGH speed the steering wheel shakes. let me say also that when i apply brakes there is no pulsating on brake pedal. brake pads were changed last march 2008. and done less than 4000 km since. what do you guys think it is ? i still have 4 months warranty left.
like i said when drivingat low or high sppeds there is absolutely no vibbration on steering wheel, only during braking.
please advise
thanx
LUIGI

RE: shakey steering wheel when braking
Luigi, i'll take a stab to at least give you my perspective based on what I have found previously. Even if you sometimes, or only at certain speeds, experience the vibration in the steering wheel, and not in the brake pedal, I think your problem lies in warped rotors. Recently, the same thing happened to my girlfriend. Brakes pads were replaced probably 6 months ago, along with a turning of the rotors (which looked like they took quite a bit off being the first time. it has dimples in them, that is how i could tell how much material was removed) then all of a sudden, both at high speeds and stop n go braking (heating up those rotors), the car starts shuddering. Now it doesn't happen all of the time, only after repetitive braking or the hard decel from highway speeds. I suspect your rotors may be close enough to their minimum thickness spec, that they did warp after getting heated up. No going back now i am afraid. I am currently, as i type this weekend, swapping out rotors on the front. no need to change the pads though.
That is my best guess.

Thanx for the response. i checked the service order done by previous owner. well when he changed the pads on all 4 wheels ,the report says that the thickness of rotors were 6 mm front and 8 mm rear. this was done in march 2008 and only about 4000 kms were done since. what are specs on thickness?
