Doesn't running the tank so low risk damaging the fuel pump. I've been led to believe you shouldn't run the tank much below a quarter to avoid overheating the pump.

It's a UK spec car
Yep...
A/C off, and drive with one eye on the road, one eye on the instant fuel consumption. To be honest it was not a fun trip, but it was an interesting exercise...

I just did a 450 mile trip and averaged 28.6 mpg. 120 miles of the tip was on hilly country mountain roads and another part was in bumper to bumper traffic that took 2.5 hours to go 15 miles the rest was freeway doing 75. Considering the 120 miles of very hilly country roads and 2.5 hours of stop and go traffic I thought the 28.6 was pretty damn good for a full size sedan. I figure that on the freeway at 75 mph it had to be getting north of 30 mpg. When I got home the fuel counter said I still had 165 miles left.

I get 23 in the XJR pretty much all the time in combined driving.

Mine gets 30mpg highway and 23 combined. It helps to engage cruise control wherever possible and practice hybrid car techniques such as 'pulse and glide'. Before I got my Prius daily commuter I averaged barely 20mpg combined, could not resist mashing the gas pedal every chance I got, still hard to resist every time i get into the Jag. ![Icon Hyper](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_hyper.gif)
