Sigh. Goodbye, friend.

Things felt off in the suspension. I had just gotten two control arms replaced and it didn't seem to help. Plus whenever I went into reverse there was some kind of suspension knock as the car changed directions. AND the headlights were starting to flicker. Almost forgot about that.
Not to mention I was constantly worried that an air strut would let go at any moment.
In addition to the purchase, I spent over $15k on this car in less than 4 years. That's much too much. Even after the payout it'll still be a net loss for me.
The x308 should be a nice change of pace. I work from home so I'm not driving nearly as much as I used to. I just need something reliable and relatively inexpensive without being boring

That's unfortunate. I'd be in the same boat though having spent way more on my X308 in the last few years than "book value" (and will probably continue to waste money on it because I just like it.) Chances are though with enthusiasts like us is that accidents will more likely be the fault of the other driver and should be covered by their insurance anyway. I dropped "collision" a long, long time ago because of that plus the puny settlement wouldn't make any difference to me financially. What I could probably use though is mental health insurance for a team of psychiatrists to help me through the grieving process.

RIP
Man that sucks! I was rear ended by a DD 2 years ago, took my Indigo Blue Metallic 08 VDP too soon, but I did replace her with an 09 XJL in. Liquid Silver Metallic - she’s also a beauty. Couldn’t think of any other car that I’d want when I got my insurance check - needed and still need my daily X358 fix!
Beat of luck and hope you get sometime fine and luxurious in the near future!

Wow, $15k over 4 years is a lot. Wish you the best with the XJR, the x308 is definitely a better looking car and if you're not driving it as much it should be perfect.

Damn funny valuation numbers, though?
My "plain-Jane" XJ8-L was about $ 10,3XX used when bought back in 2013 ...with ~ 87K miles on the chassis, about 35,000 FEWER miles on the engine.... as had been replaced, outright, and under warranty. Bit over 112k miles on the chassis now.
'.....never forget your first Jaguar.."?
Never forget a 700+ mile trip as the third person in a '61 Karmann-Ghia's "package shelf" rear 'seat', either!
