Sirius / HD Radio iboc swap?

Sirius / HD Radio iboc swap?
08 XJ with factory Sirius...
Inspired by Cambo's DAB retrofit, I'm inspired to remove the factory Sirius module and replace it with the HD Radio unit. (Still using fantastic VeffBox to stream all else). HD radio would be a nice alternative since the Sirius currently has no subscription.
I have sourced the Sirius unit and all the necessaries (gateway, cabling, etc.) are factory located in the trunk boot.
Have removed the trunk liners and looked at the JEPC. Where is the factory installed location for the Sirius unit? Is it under the rear parcel shelf?
Am thinking that the IBOC could' be installed in the trunk boot if I could source the orange fiber cable and an antenna without removing the factory Sirius, possibly?
Thanks-

My 2006 factory unit is located right rear fender well (boot). This is the jaguar fitted unit that had the controller in place of the ashtray. I think the later units had the controls built into the head unit. Veff or Evan would know. Evan has the later year car. I canned the Sirius unit and only use my VeffBox when the Sirius unit started acting up. Sirius had too many short loop tracks for the money and not the greatest sound. Are you planning on installing Cambo's DAB retro fit or Sirius? I don't think the Sirius system is worth it. Streaming with a VeffBox would be a better choice, or DAB.
Mag, I thought you had a total system installed allready.

The location of the IBOC or SDARS module in the X358 is behind the back seat, you need to flip the seat back forwards and it mounts on some studs in a similar way to the air suspension module.
All I did with my DAB and Gateway was stack them on top of the Nav unit in the boot, if you don't have the DVD player then there is space on top. And actually the holes in the DAB module lined up perfectly with the holes in the top of the stack, just had to remove the mounting brackets from the module, and bend the top of the stack inwards. The DAB (or in your case IBOC) module goes on top, the gateway fits below it.
Haven't got an updated pic of it right now sorry.

Sounds great. Removing the seat is favorable to removing the rear shelf in my opinion, so will carry on.
Main reason for doing this is the have free HD Radio (IBOC) instead of subscription based Sirius.
Mainly a curiosity, there are not may HD channels in my locale; am hoping it may be of use on long trips when the phone's music selection becomes too familiar.
Thanks again-

Like this MOST Fiber Optic 4 + 2 Multimedia Connector 1-1355639-1 For Audi BMW Benz 2Pcs | eBay
But that supplier doesn't include the terminals for the electrical connections. You might have to hack something up (like I did for the gateway module, get some terminals out of another connector and push them straight over the pins.

You discovered one of the hidden gems of the MOST system - super weird connectors. Everyone and their mother creates strange connectors incorporating the fiber optic cables and a random number of power + control lines, just so nothing is compatible between cars.
This one looks simple enough, but you still have to figure out how to plug the fiber optic cables. Does it fit?

No, the connector does not fit.
On the original connector, there is a small blue wedge that appears to secure the optic cables in place within the connector.
While fiddling, I removed this blue 'wedge' and I expected the fibers to pull out of the backside of the connector. They did not budge; so as you say, this is a remaining obstacle.
It may seem better to source the cable (most to iboc) in tact rather than 'rebuild the existing' cable.

I was losing daylight and wanted to get the car back together for this weekend's trip so I did not look too closely.
Thanks again.

You need a housing like this one:
MOST Fiber Optic 4 + 2 Multimedia Connector 1-1355639-1 For Audi BMW Benz 2Pcs | eBay
Move the fiber optic pins to the new housing and use regular dupont pins for the 4 electrical connectors.
A little cheaper on aliexpress 2 for $17,
