Speakers - Repair or replace w XF Units?

Hey yellowbandit,
I had soldered in jumper wires on 3/4 door speakers about 2 years ago. The speakers play again, however, I was never satisfied with the tone quality. The mid-tones are very muddy. I'm actually about to swap in some XF speakers now. I suggest just skipping the solder repair. XF speakers are plentiful.

Something I discovered quite by accident is that the factory speaker makes a perfect mount for replacement 6.5 speakers. Cut the cone out, cut out the frame that holds the voice coil, and you end up with an empty plastic ring with the right mounting bolt points, and the electrical connector. Set your replacement speaker on top of the ring and make the screw holes you need, then simply screw or bolt the replacement speaker to the ring, wire the connectors to the plug built in to the ring. POOF! 100% Jaguar-compatible mount adapter for your aftermarket speakers!
