Default Sport Mode / Traction control buttons sticky and worn

Hi There,
Does anyone know of a place that could resurface or supply just the buttons? I really don't want to replace the whole J Gate assy.

Did you find a solution for this?

Polish off the sticky with some Simichrome paste...looks fine in 3 minutes

Hello

Still have the car? Would you have a pic of how the buttons do look in the dark? I believe they're supposed to be lit...?

Cheers

Believe the sport button is lit, with the traction control lite on the dash.

Has anyone been able to replace just these buttons? It seems not possible without replacing the whole J Gate right. I had the same problem with the worn buttons but unfortunately simichrome stripped off most of the black paint and they just look terrible now. Maybe I'll paint them black if I can't replace just the buttons.

Here's a thread where I'm trying to figure out the same thing. (So far only in theory, I'll look into it on my own once my replacement shifter knob arrives.)
Also the imagery in this thread by @CheekySmurf looks rather promising.

Regardless of whether it is possible to replace them, they can be purchased here: Sport more, Traction control.

Both buttons are lit in the dark, the Sport mode button additionally has a red LED to show that sport mode is active.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hopefully, I will be able to have look at my old shifter again tomorrow and see how it is built.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hello, @hisport. I see you are not far from hometown of Max Meadows. I enjoy visiting Mt Airy when I'm up that way.
My question: Are these 2 buttons black with the symbol in white? Meaning if I wipe off the sticky covering, will the buttons still be black with the white symbol? Probably a dumb question, but I've always wondered and not wanted to experiment.

My apologies for the delay,
but something came up work wise and I will not be able to go to my workshop and check the shifter before next week.

Best regards,

Thomas

Could you possibly mask them and airbrush a matt clear over the two button surfaces to effectively seal them with a stable isolation layer whilst still preserving the graphics?
Not sure if you might get a solvent reaction depending on the composition of the original button coating.
