Default The 'squawk', 'chirp' or 'bark' on acceleration.

My 2005 XJ8 with about 44K miles on it has been giving me the dreaded 'squawk' on acceleration....seems like the shift from standstill, especially if accelerating quickly, is a little late and a little harsh.

I know this sound is a common anomaly--what does it mean? I have a problem searching for it on the Forum, because I don't know what to call it.

Is this sound trouble?

Jaguar issued many TSBs for the fault you are describing.
I would change the fluid (LifeGuard 6) and perform a TCM 'clear adaptations' with a suitable diagnostic device WDS, IDS etc.

Other people have used different fluid so that might be something to look into.

I seem to recall reading somewhere (you'll need to use the 'Search' facility to find it) that there was a ZF additive that is/was recommended to help stop 'the squawk', but your first move should be as Motorcarman suggests, fluid & filter change and a TCM (transmission control module) reflash/update.

ZF's official advice changed some years ago and now say that the transmission fluid should be changed every 50-75,000 miles or eight years (whichever occurs first). Jaguar for some reason haven't caught up and (as far as I'm aware) still say that the transmission is 'sealed for life'. So if the car has only ever been serviced according to the Jag service schedule then it's way overdue for a transmission fluid and filter change.
