Default Standard Japanese Spec? - XJR

Does any one know what equipment a standard 2003-2005 XJR, that was originally sold in Japan, would have on it (if there is such a thing)? e.g. premium sound, Sat Nav etc.

I am considering buying one at auction and importing it to New Zealand as they seem to be a lot more common there and are generally in good condition with low K's.

Alternatively, is there any one in NZ thinking of selling theirs or know some one who might be?

wow, don't know if i've ever seen a member from Japan, I'd think that car would be considered too 'large' for their streets. Not sure if you'll find an answer.

If you have a VIN number, you might be able to ask one of our guys to look up the cars specific features, those that have access to jags database.

how about an intro in the new member section? Say hi and be welcomed.

Thanks anyway. Judging by the number of cars going through their auctions they are reasonably common.

Certainly compared to New Zealand anyway where there were 26 XJ's registered in 2005 of which only two were XJR's!

Mind you, only 16 XJ's were registered in 2006.

In Japan there is a very large tax on cars after a certain age, a very low age by western standards. Therefore, there is a strong export mkt for attractive used Japanese cars and engines, In fact, in the U.S. Japanese engines with low milage are available at good prices but not the cars. Cost too much to bring Nippon cars up to U.S. mandates.

I believe that you guys drive on the wrong side of the road, as do the Japanese. It follows that some good values may be had on Jags out of the rising sun, assuming you don't have to spend a fortune meeting NZ standards. I would go for it if the price is right.

Cheers, the scary part is buying unseen but at least the cars are graded so there is less chance of getting a dog.

Unfortunately the Yen is getting stronger against the Kiwi $ so the cars are becoming less affordable.

If you go through a reputable importer/exporter you should be OK. Their business depends on reputation and they should be licenced. They will normally handle the paperwork as well.

Just make sure that the car has not been modified in any way from manufacturer's specifications and that it is of an age that complies with your local NZ regulations. Especially in the areas of emissions and impact protection.

You have probably already been here, but still, http://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/index.html

A couple of years ago I was involved in the back end of an import from Japan of a Mercedes AMG SL 500.

The car was bought unseen, except for a quick photo. The agent handled the purchase, then shipping to the UK. Import documents into the UK and delivery.

I then handled the Export from the UK and Import into France.

The car was LHD and turned out to be a real cracker at a purchase price of around £6000!!!

Thanks for your reply. I actually brought my XJR with me from the UK so have been through the process once already. The regulations have been tightened up recently but most main stream cars after 2002 should be OK for importing to NZ.

I bought a car (Jap import) for my wife recently and popped in to the dealer we bought it from to pick something up. They said that they can source cars to order and have cost benefits through the sheer volume they import so I may see if they can sort me out with one. Their buyers also have access to cars the general public don't.

Well after all that I bought a Platinum, 1 owner 2004 XJ 4.2 SE today. 40,000 miles and a big spec that includes rear electric, heated seats.

I will miss the power of the XJR but the mix of the softer CATS and 20" wheels makes for a great ride, much nicer than the XJR I tried with 20" wheels. It is a good looking car too!

Does some one have access to the database? I have ended up buying a 2004 4.2SE and would be interested in the original factory spec sheet. I managed to get one for my '98 XJR from the dealer when I first bought it.

VIN is SAJKC72P65SG38448

TIA

Richard

Hi, you can check your own VIN no here, VIN CHECK it won't tell you more than you already know but it will confirm that you have what you think you have.

It also has a section about decoding Jag VIN no's.

Cheers,

Thanks for that. I was really after the factory build sheet for the car, things like premium sound system, voice control etc.

I believe that people who have on-line access to Jaguars systems can get the sheet for any given VIN.

I don't pick my new car up until the weekend and only spent a couple of hours with it so just wondered if there were any hidden surprises e.g. heated steering wheel.

My wife is already fed up that she is the only one without a memory seat and that my kids will be able to move her forwards and backwards from the rear seat.
