Default Steering Rack Compatible?

Hey Guy,

Well over the weekend some damge was done to my 04 XJR. I was parked on State street and the fine city of Chicago decided to tow me for being parked on a snow route.... Long story short the *******s hooked my tie rods to pull the car out the spot. Upon picking the car up I noticed the damage. They bent both inside/outside tierod ends and damaged my steering rack.

Basically Im trying to find out what year steering racks are compatible with the 04 XJR with Air suspension. I'm finding mixed answers. Thanks!

A quick look at the aftermarket seems to show that the rack is also used on the S-type. Even better, the parts you mention are available separately too: -

Jaguar X350 Parts | Jaguar X350 Tie Rod Ends & Track Rod Ends | JustJagsUK.com

Funnily enough this supplier don't seem to sell a complete rack assembly

However, if everything is damaged, you're probably better off with a secondhand assembly off the internet. There may be suppliers of service exchange items who will accept your damaged unit.

Default update

Thanks.

I just crawled under the car and took a good look at the damage. Seems only my inners are bent. they're bent right at the connection to the outters (which makes sense when I think about how the damage would have been caused). i found this place:
2 INNER Tie Rod End JAGUAR XJ8 XJR 04-09 XK XKR 07-09 | eBay

Im going to order those new inners and some new outters just because Im under the car working on it already, might as well.

Im going to go back out and take a better look at it and remove the boot so I can see the inner connection to the rack and check for damage.

Seems, these inners are rare to locate. I just called Jag'd once I found the one listed about and they won't sell the inners seperate. And I cant find anyone else state side that has them available? Any ideas I normally dont like dealing with ebay.

The supplier I put on my post ship internationally. I have used them myself and they are pretty good. Parts normally arrive at my address within 2 days, (UK, of course).

I'm no expert but it seems to me that the damage should be paid for by the idiots who towed the car in an improper manner. It is a sad state of affairs when a state or state appointed tow company can damage your car with impunity. I would be very very p!ssed off if they did that to me....
