Stranded
Gotta problem! Took my 2004 Vanden Plas into the car wash last night & the engine died - wouldn't start. Pushed the car into an adjacent parking lot & left it there overnight. I noticed water had accumulated in the passenger footwell (enough to puddle) and the dash display gave me an "engine system failure" warning. I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC, about 600 miles from home with no assistance! Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. I've now got the roof and windows cracked in the hope that maybe the car will dry out in the heat of the day and the problem resolves itself. Only thing I've got going for me is my Blackberry, so please feel free to email, or reply post here. Thanks a million!!

Engine system failure can mean a host of things gone wrong. The puddling on the passenger side is probably caused by your a/c heater matrix box drains being clogged. In my experience, this would not cause the engine systems failure. My first thought is it's throttle related since it's somewhat common. You're going to have to have it towed, if you try to start it again and the warning remains. The warning can go out if the issue is intermittant but will still need diagnosis, because the warning will return. But if the warning is gone, you can drive at your risk.....if it comes back on it will go into limp home and it'll be a slow 600 miles home.
