Strange sound.
04 XJ8:
I had the strangest thing happen the other day. I was pulling up to a red light and a chime came from the rear of the car. Sounded just like the rear park sensor when steady on. Lasted about 10 seconds. I looked all over the instruments to see if there was any kind of warning light, but nothing. At the next light it did it again. Hasn`t happened again. ??????
It seems the only time the car acts up is when someone is in the car with me!! Go figure......

RE: Strange sound.
Was it raining or snowing? Any Ice or snow that could have been on the sensors?
I had a somewhat similar situation tonight and thought about this thread when it happened. I went to pick up a take-n-bake pizza with wife and pulled into parking spot. Backed up car to straighten it up and put it in park. My wife went in to get pizza and walked around the back of car. A rear park assist tonesounded but it didn't beep beep beep, it was just one long tone for theduration it took my wife to pass behind the car. I thought maybe I hadn't put the car completely in park from reverse. I moved the shifter to make sure it was in park and took my foot off the brake. It happened again when someone else walked behind car and again when my wife came back to the car. I told my wife what had happened and she said that the reverse lights were on but not brake lights. I checked it out when we got home and it didn't happen again. When going from reverse to park, the reverse lights promtply turned off as soon as the shifter left the reverse position. For the tone to be one solid tone I had to be within about 12 inces of the bumper when in reverse. So, I'm thinking that the reverse light switch just got stuck for a bit and that the rear park assist is switched by the same circuit. I have found out that with my car, I can fix a lot of issues just by turning the car off for a moment.
While we're on the subject of strange sounds.....Can anybody tell me where exactly the alarm horn is? This thing sounds like something from a pink moped with pom pom handlebar tassles. I'ts embarrasing when I hit a wrong key on the remote somehow and people hear this thing. I want to swap it out for an Oooga horn or something more manly. Maybe I'll hook some "Dixie" horns to the air system.
