Default Strange Stereo Issue

Figured I'd make a separate thread from my XJR rescue thread to make this easier to find for anyone else experiencing the same issue.

I have a 2006 Jaguar XJR with the touchscreen navigation system, and it has some strange behavior that I haven't found any information on anywhere else.

From what I've read online, normally when the battery is disconnected or goes too low in voltage, the radio requires a code to get back in. Entering in this code incorrectly results in a message, and entering it in three times incorrectly locks the stereo out for a set amount of time.

My stereo doesn't do that at all. Instead, when I enter ANY code (doesn't matter if it's 0000, 9999, 6969, etc.) the stereo says "please wait" then lets me in and use all of the system functions like climate control and GPS navigation EXCEPT for the radio, which always says "RADIO OFF" and none of the physical radio buttons can get it to turn on, even the ones in the steering wheel.

What's even weirder is that when the ignition is switched fully off, then fully back on again, the system will then ask for the PIN again.

Has anyone else had this issue or knows what is going on? I was able to get the radio code matching the VIN from the local Jaguar dealer, vut even this code does the same thing as any other random PIN I input. I also tried the three button trick, but this didn't seem to do anything either. Maybe the audio/CD unit below the display unit needs replaced? All my research up to this point has found nothing even close to this, and I'm stumped.

Hi VR6Rado,
The radio code requirement is only for certain markets. I thought the NA (North America) market did not have this 'anti-theft' measure.
Is your radio still connected to the navigation unit in the trunk/boot ? I think that some of the functionality of the radio is tied in with the optical link to the nav DVD.

My car is a Japan market car and among its many curiosities, has no radio code requirement. Also no tire pressure system, audio commands. alarm or beep on lock/unlock.

Hmmm, my Jap Import came with a radio code, safely stored but I'll do anything to avoid needing it.
(3113 but then you have to know where I live)

Try a hard reset ie detach battery leads and connect together for say 10 mins.

One time radio started but no button functioning. After a while on the touch screen appears communication problems contact dealer. I toom battery off for one minute, message disapears but radio still off. Always the same, aks for pin….

I have no idea what to do

Did you ever have any water get into the interior or something spilled anywhere near the nav screen or radio?

I suspect my issues are related to the audio unit itself. My car had been left outside after a tree had fallen on it and smashed the roof in, funneling water right into the center of the dash. I haven't yet swapped the audio unit to confirm, but I suspect water ingress may be the source of my issues. If the audio unit was entirely dead, the d2b circuit wouldn't be complete and nothing would work, so I think the audio unit is malfunctioning, causing the weird behaviour.
