One Jag in the dirt waiting for return of ECM-2005 XK8.
Now this. 2005 XJ8L.. Pulled into driveway and backed up to better fit under carport and Shift Lever stuck in reverse.
Reading some older post on the forum, found the one about the little toggle button on the side of the shifter box, so removed all the trim around (J) Shifter , found toggle on left side of box, toggled forward and shifter will now move from Reverse to all positions except forward into Park, but the Red (R) stays lit--never changes to other positions---just stays lit on reverse position and check this out--Key will not turn all the way off and can't be removed, plus must use the second set of keys to open trunk. Everything else works--lights etc. but of course can't lock car because key is still in ignition.
Opened trunk with other key and disconnected battery. Will trouble shoot tomorrow. Checked, but no codes.
Any recommendations on what to try next or if you know what will work I would appreciate the help.
Two Jaguars in the dirt isn't any fun..........
Cheers

Chuck, here is a picture of the shifter bolts you are looking for on the (right) side of the transmission, they are 8mm in size.

Thanks again chum, found forward of the two missing and replaced. Their so small, one is pressed to call them bolts.
However, didn't fix problem, still stuck in reverse.
Once the problem is fixed, I have a very simply fix that will end them from ever coming loose and falling out again, but first must find the fix.
I read somewhere that the two switches operated by the brake pedal do different things.
One operates some sort of switch under the shifter lever (you can hear it click). Who knows what the other one does?
Thanks & Cheers
