Default A stupid question about how to find non-OEM brake pads

I need new rear brake pads & rotors, but the OEM pads cost $250 each. I've gone to my mechanic & asked him to find cheaper ones, but he says those are the only pads available for the Jaguar 2004 XJ8.

I know this isn't the case, but I don't know how to find brake pads that fit my car. How do you go about finding non-Jaguar rotors for a Jaguar, and how do you know they'll fit?

I also need new rear links, and similarly don't know how to find non-OEM ones.

Online parts places exist, some are forum sponsors with a discount
You put in your car details and they should identify parts that fit.

Try:
Akebono Online Parts Catalog
Select "Vanden plas", for some reason they don't have XJ8 as model, but the brakes are the same.

EBC has online catalog, but you have to sift through it:
EBC ecatalogues for Motorcycle & Automotive Brakes

Amazon has a good selection and search by vehicle model.

There's a entire DYI on the brakes and rotors with sources and pricing. Do it yourself and save $$$. Read this link:

Try Rock Auto, Jagbits or Autozone for sway bar links. Sway Bar Repair Kit | 2004 Jaguar VDP 8 Cylinders 4.2L SFI DOHC | AutoZone.com

Over the course of many years and many Jaguars, I've frequently used my Jaguar Dealer for parts.

However, one thing I NEVER buy from them is brake pads. Too many lower cost aftermarket sources available for OEM quality and better quality pads.

I am astonished ! $250 = £152.

Yet I only recently had rear pads and discs replaced at my local independent and the pads cost £60 = $99. Are these Brembo brakes ?

BTW what do you mean by "rear links" ?

Default Links are usually on the ends of sway bars in this case

If you look at this link. Sway Bar Repair Kit | 2004 Jaguar VDP 8 Cylinders 4.2L SFI DOHC | AutoZone.com

You will recognize them located on the ends of the sway bars were they attached to the sway bar and and another point on the moving suspension.
