Tension on Primary Timing Chains - 2007 XJ8L - 4.2L V8
Hi all,
Curious how many here have had to do a cam or VVT actuator swap on the 4.2 V8 and if anyone had tension gaps on the primary chains? I'd opted to swap an intake cam out of a low-mileage car that was hit in the front instead of spending the absurd $700 on an actuator. The issue that I've got is that on the straight guide, I'm getting a small gap that has me wondering if the actuator will take up the slack or if I need to loosen and align the actuator. The gap is on the guide opposite the tensioner and looks about 3/16" which is concerning. Further, when I try to adjust the chain, for it to align perfectly it will be between links amd that's obviously no bueno - the last thing I want is the engine skipping links. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
