Whoa...I just looked at the black one you linked from Texas. You're not first on the list for that one already with an airline ticket in hand?
Under 10K for an '05 with less then 40k miles !!!!! What are you waiting for that's almost a free car. Someone on this list is going to grab that puppy. I know I would if I didn't already have one. Besides I'm already planning on an XKR as my next target for me now that the wife is happy.

jeff...keep in mind that the tranny is a derivative of the original adaptive automatic first introduced by Chrysler back in the late 80's. Much improved and now 6 speeds of course. Also built by ZF in Germany of course. In any case the hard shifting that you noted on your first test drive is quite possibly due to the way in which the previous drivers have driven the car. If you were to disconnect the battery for a few minutes (that's the way we did it originally but ZF could do it differently) and then go for a 50-75 miles drive with your normal stops, starts, acceleration, etc. it will 'adapt' it's shift pattern to your style. It will do so eventually even without a memory wipe as mine has over the past 2-3 weeks.
Also, is there any chance that it was in 'sport' mode which limits any upshift to 6th, and increases the rev limit in each gear for more forceful acceleration? Just a thought but probably not the case.

RD,the TX car was essentially sold even b4 it arrived, 'hold' means $2k non refundable deposit -and a black insides besides but I didn't notice the miles discrepency-67k in the ad & 36k on the clock....
And the trans was only a fast hard shift when I was on it, otherwise seemingly normal.
And now the 23k VDP was refreshed to $17800-guess he had too many offers above his orig $ of 15750!

That trans problem seems about right for an adaptive issue. In general it's the initial throttle opening, or 'tip in' that can confuse those systems as they have programed themselves to a more gentle initial throttle input as would be the norm for more average drivers. Then you or I get in and in a "test' drive we grab it by the throat and it bucks, shifts hard (bang), or otherwise protests. This is not a guarantee mind you buy it is a very real possibility that you must consider as you continue your search. Next time don't jump all over it from a dead stop or low speed (5-10 mph) and see how it reacts.
