Smile Thermostat 2005 Super V8

Hello to all,
il know There are several posts on thermostats, but can someone Tell me which is the model name or item number for the correct one for the superchaged XJ?
l régulary buy from Rock Auto , but there are several ones , but some are actually for the non super charged XJ.
I see one at least from Motorad and one from Gates.

The OEM item AJ8006484 is discontinued.
Any help is appreciated.
cheers.

Many people just replace the whole plastic tree that contains
the thermostat because apparently it's not obvious how the
thing goes together.
not sure if the tree is available any more.
the other thing you could possibly do is to
Google the part no in Images and try to match
the t'stat with what is available

What @meirion1 said.. and even trying to match photos wasn't good enough because the upgrades will NOT look like the older part as they can also involve mating changes to adjacent plumbing, and CAN even have provision for different bleeder tubes and sensors (needed or not) as the designers tried to cover more than one older model.

Newer Rover was far worse - more than one upgrade was done. On that one, ultimately bought two to three "possible" ones, still had to do some cross-breeding and surgery to get them to all play well together.

Dealer techs probably have a "cheat sheet" and larf their ***** off over the confusion out in 'radioland'?

Feel free. I may be stoopid.. but my T-stat don't leak. So there!

As far as I know, the thermostat housing (or tree, as you call it) is plastic only on the n/a cars, but on the supercharged cars it is metal. At least it is metal on my Super V8.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi there,

I did this job a few weeks ago. I bought mine from AutoZone. The Duralast part number for the thermostat is 82190. It's a pretty tough job to get it into the aluminum housing once you've got the old one out, but it is possible and is working just fine in my 2006 XJR. Ignore RockAuto's recommended part, it's the wrong one - found that out the hard way.

Good luck!

2006 has a totally different tstat housing than the 05

05 has a normal looking wide thermostat

- Ditto Xalty, if yours is an X356 (from mid '06 in USA, IIRC)
- All X350 SC cars have metal t'stat housing
- Strongly suggest using OEM JLR thermostat, not aftermarket

UPDATE:
My problem was that my fast speed fan was always engaging and stayed on after engine shut down. This is not normal coolant fan operation.
Therefore after research here it replaced the thermostat with a GATES 33948 available at Rock Auto.

This remedied the issue, not more fast speed fan.

While at it did a coolant drain and fill.
Cheers.
