thinking about xj8l, what are common issues

Xjpassion has it right. I've only had our XJ8L for 6 months (2005 w/ 40,000 miles) and the only problem was a leaky front shock shortly after we got it. $1200 later, it rides like a cloud again. Fair notice: The Jaguar extended warranty does not cover shocks. Oddly enough, it does cover the compressor relay, which was the first diagnosed problem, so the towing and diagnosis were covered. Being as how this happend way out in Wyoming, the towing (to/from Denver) was no small deal. Other threads will recommend replacing the shocks at about 60K, and there are some aftermarket ones for a whole lot less. I now carry an extra relay 'cuz that would have at least kept us on the road with just the small leak.
Anyway, we LOVE the car. It is without a doubt the most comfortable road car I've ever been in, and the space in the back is amazing.
Best regards,

You can't go wrong. Have a 2006 XJ8L with 20K, an no real problems to speak of....
Not sure why but the chrome around the rear windows discolored which was covered under wararranty, and the wood on each front door had a small crack, also covered under warranty. Otherwise, an excellent ride!
