Thinking of Buying: '06 Jaguar Portfolio
I made the mistake of selling my last Jaguar, 1995 VDP, I really shouldn't have but now it's been 5 months and I have been searching and searching. Found a 2006 Portfolio, black cherry/black int. ,73,732 miles, 2nd owner, stored for the last 3 years, etc. Also, I found a 2008 Jaguar VDP, black/black with 112,321 miles. What should I be looking for or looking out for with these vehicles. Quite honestly I'm good with cars from 1925-1995 right now. Moving in a new direction. Thanks ahead of time for any input! Have been behind the wheel of a Jag since 1979...need the fix.

I will ask about that. The only new info I have is that the ABS light is on and it will go to the shop on Monday am to see what the code reads. Curious about leaving that car stored?? Also, the price is $14,000..seems low..does that lead to something? I am used to bringing the old gals back to life but new technology might be beyond me. I will ask for service records.

What issues have you had with your XJL? I thinking of buying an 08 or 09 and gathering info on the attention areas of these years.

Get it smoged. Study the emission outputs. If all the emissions are on the low side of passing it's a good indicator that the engine internals are okay from being stored.
Check the AC for any leaks. After long storage the compressor seals go bad from lack of use.
Check the cooling system for leaks too.
A big item are the suspension bushings. Its likely some of them need replacing after long storage.

IF the car is cosmetically perfect it is very desirable and could potentially be brought back to proper level. At $14k with 73k miles if it was in my area I would probably jump on it. Find a good independent mechanic, use good quality non-OEM parts where you can, Jag parts where forced to and hope the repair bill stays under $10k. You will have $24k into a car that is worth between $20k-$28k depending on who you believe.
The 2006 Jaguar Super V8 Portfolio is a truly rare car and spectacular to drive. Very few cars in the Jag lineup can compare. I got mine with 68k and I just drove past 115k.
Just my .02 of course...

I haven't had any major issues (unless you count a dead alternator), but I found that the previous owner didn't do any of the recommended services. He didn't even change the oil at the recommended intervals.
Knowing this, i'm on luck and a prayer hoping that nothing goes wrong with the car.
