Default Thinking of an X350

It's been a while since I've been on this forum. I sold my 2001 VDP (X308) least year and am yearning for another Jag. I'm toying with the idea of an X350, perhaps a 2006 Super V8.
I'm sure this has been covered in previous threads, but what are the common problems with these cars from year to year (2004-2008)? What should I stay away from? What should I look out for?
From what I've read, they are pretty bulletproof. The only thing I could see as being a concern is the air suspension (CATS).
I'd appreciate any feedback on this.
Thanks.

I have a 2004 XJR. It is without a doubt my favorite of all the cars I have owned. That list includes a Porsche 911, BMW 540 Sport, BMW 750Li, Mini Cooper S, Range Rover, Audi A8...you get the idea.
I don't think there is anything scary about the X350. Lots of talk about the air suspension, but it is super easy to fix and really not that expensive if you can do it yourself.
My neighbor has a 308, and I really think the 350 is way better.
If you can find a good Super V8 you should be very happy!

I have a 2009 Super V8 and love it. Although I've only had it for about 4 months... no problems to date with anything, including air suspension.

I've preferred the later model XJ's (2004 - 2009) than the pre-2004 models... not only for their looks but because of their lightweight aluminum body shells.

If you get a Super V8 you'll also be buying into a rare trim level package.. if that interests you.

Also, make sure you get the exact color combo you want, both exterior and interior.

Good luck.

I've not long bought an X350, after selling my X300 2 1/2 years ago, I only have the V8 3.5 SE, I really like the car and as yet have had only a couple of issues, one was an engine temp switch and the other a parking sensor, my car has 144000 miles and is 9yrs old, still looks really good and drives well although compared with the earlier x300 the ride quality at low speeds is a bit firm, I think you are correct in thinking air suspension can be an issue and is expensive if the units fail, but they are simple to replace (check online for procedure, I found one on Bilstein Europe site) you may have more options as remanufactured units are available from the States, in the uK the only option is new from Jag or Bilstein and around 7-800gpb each. My local main agent was very helpful and said I should have no problem maintaining the car myself and that they had very few problems.

Agree with all the points above. I also moved from '00 X308 to '06 X350 and felt there was a lot less to worry about. I have owned my X350 for over a year now with absolutely no issues so far. I would also add a note about the stupid plastic expansion tank which can start to leak. Unfortunately there is no better replacement available yet, so you just buy another stupid plastic one which will break again.

The Super V8s are great cars with arguably no compromises between XJR performance and Vanden Plas luxury. Good luck in your search.

I have had my 2005 XK8L Vanden Plas for a little over a year and a half now with no problems so far. However to ovoid having future problems with them, I did change out the front shocks on mine with some re-manufactured by Arnotts at a cost of $800.

My car is fitted out exactly the same as the super 8 but without the super charged engine. Got myself in a little trouble the other day when I mentioned that the super charged engine only gives a little extra power over what I have but what I meant by that was usable power. With traffic speed limits being what they are today, why spend the extra money on feeding a thirsty engine when you cannot use the extra benefits that the super charger allows. My car is more than powerful enough as it is, so I prefer the way superior 33 MPG (Imperial) that I have averaged with my car since owning it.
