Default Throttle body elbow issue

Hi the latest problem on my 2004 XJR is the gasket in the Throttle body elbow. It is leaking and apparently it is not a serviceable part as on the XType and the Elbow is $1100! It is crazy that this part has failed because do a $3 rubber o ring. So any ideas? Has anyone fixed this O ring? Is there an alternative later model part or does anyone know where I can pick one up cheaper. My car is kicking my ***.

Can you take a photo? I cannot picture this part. I suspect there is another route to go. You may also want to check with local car restorers in your area, that may be used to making custom parts for older vehicles.

The part is the elbow between the SC and the TB is Aluminum but with the rubber O ring, why you cannot change just the O Ring is beyond me.

Rob,

I'm not sure what part you are talking about.
In the SC Cooling outlet outlet. You have 2 replaceable gaskets that go to the the inter coolers. The oulet of this elbow goes to the TB and the S/C Bypass. The outlet is held in place on the TB with a clamp
The only O ring on this part is on the block off plug. Any Std o ring will do for this

The TB nas a gasket at the base plate this is also replaceable

So I'm not sure what you are referring to

Me neither I am meeting with the Jag Tech Tomorrow. The elbow is in 2 Parts apparently. Both the Intercooler inlet Gaskets are being changed but there is still a leak at the elbow. I have not seen the part I was just told that it needs changing. I am sure that it can be fixed at a more reasonable price but cannot get a blown up plan to see the parts, why Jag will not let Haynes produce a manual is crap.

Yep agree on the Manuals

I find I need to Use JTIS and JEPC together to get a good idea of the parts
But it also takes forever to get to the right section in both as the index is the worst

On a side note the best ones I have ever used are the ones for My Rover 75

If in fact you need an O ring. You can use any o ring max temps will peak no higher than 70Deg C

You just need to match the size. You indi should be able to do this easily from his mixed O ring sets. If he cant go down to the fastener shop and by a set

Good luck, i'm off to the industrial supply store now to pickup some new milling bits. Need a new one to make the stainless intake flange on the S/C exhaust. (Fitting 100 CPSI cats)

Ok more info, on the Throttle body elbow there is a vacuum pipe with a push fit fitting which has the o ring in, this is the o ring that has failed. The concern is the plastic piece that the pipe pushes onto it becomes brittle over time and usually breaks and needs replacing. The X types have a service kit part number C2S15816 a kit for the XJR is not available. So a 3 cent part means replacing a $1200 elbow. The elbow part number is A5812474. There must be some of these plastic parts about somewhere even if Jag does not see them, perhaps Ford Do if anyone knows anything please let me know.

Can you modify the elbow by installing a nipple
You would have to drill out the std fitting and tap the hole
If your hose is buggered you can make one up from std vac hose

Check out my old thread with the kit information for the xk8, if its the same size vacuum line, buy the kit, and just use the o-ring. That is exactly what i did. No other o-ring i had in my large assortment was the correct size.

Hi Matt that is exactly the part I need, Jaguar say that this kit is not available for the 4.2 SC engine I have made a note of the part number from your photo, your engine is a 4.2 NA car correct? I must be able to get that plastic part from somewhere.

Hi robert, it wasn't too long ago, so i am fairly confident you should be able to find it online...try gaudin jaguar, or call your parts guy at youR dealer and order it by number, taking full responsibiity for the compatibility.

Hi Matt that part number on the bag in the photo does not work, was the part number C2S15816 by any chance, forum member XJRguy says this part should work and the kit looks exactly like your picture.

Well the kit did not work, the O Ring and clip are too small. Kit C2S15816 for the X Type does not fit so I am stuck with Replacing the Elbow at $1100 for the elbow with another $1100 to fit all for a bloody clip. Any more ideas anyone this part must be used on another car they would not of made it just for the XJR the XKR must have the same problem, I am wondering if the elbow was used on fords or Lincoln cars.

Check out the other vac fittings to see if any others have the same oring
Otherwise modify the fitting for a std type barb

I would modify the fitting myself as you will be replacing the elbow you have nothing to loose

I do not have the 4.2 engine,so if you can post some pics it may help people to help you.

If you need an O ring there are at least two possibilities that come to mind:

Buy a kit that consists of lengths of rubber of different sizes and make one

( splice ends and superglue)

Have an O ring custom made eg

This is what the part looks like the piece that is causing the problem is the Red Circle retaining clip the O ring you can get.

By the way this is what the part looks like but is a smaller version I believe but the red fitment is the same.

Robert, i'm baffeled w/ the red clip insert. If the brass piece is the same, why not use your kit, replace the re with the blak piece from the kit, and since it appears the red may receive a different diameter line, go a different route and replace the line perhaps? My xk8 has a 2-ft section that separates with a coupler, so maybe that part could bei could also send a small piece or measure it and it could be modified to match your existing line.

It's pretty much impossible to tell from your pic what's going on but it looks a bit like a standard push-in fitting.
I assume it is possible to unscrew the brass bit - some decent photos would help - but there's not much magic involved in fitting a pipe to that elbow.
