Default Throttle pedal dead zone

I recently bought a 2006 XJR as a weekend toy; I also have a 2003 XJ6 as my daily commuter car and I've noticed that compared to the XJ6 the XJR has quite a large dead zone on the throttle pedal, so it takes a reasonable amount of pressure/travel before it responds. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You can check the pedal assembly for debris or replace the unit. I believe it's an electrical unit that plugs in.

First suggestion is to disconnect battery for a few minutes. Upon reconnect, without starting ignition II position, depress pedal slowly all the way to the floor and hold 5 sec. Release slowly and allow to rest for 5 seconds. Repeat 3 times. Ignition off, and remove key. Then start the vehicle and drive. You can also use SDD as a diagnostic tool to track the voltage from the pedal. This is a drive by wire vehicle, and this procedure should be done every time the battery has been disconnected.

Most aren't aware of the required re-calibration of the throttle pedal after battery disconnect.

Process after battery disconnect is, throttle re-cal, audio code if required, set clock, park-brake re-cal, windows/sunroof anti-trap, windows one-touch. Then a drive for ECM adaptions.

is this the same with s type r ? it gives instructions on the message center to reset park brake but not any thing else .
mine seems to have a dead spot then a surge of power just after it , always has ! i just thought it was the second fuel pump kicking in . as it seems to be at around 4k rpm as well .

It is applicable to all models. It is rather hard to provide complex diagnostics for you without ever seeing the vehicle.
