Default Tire Noise

I have been looking through older post and have not completely found the correct answer to my question. I have had 2 XJR's with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso systems and was very pleased with preformance. The life span was a little short but handled well. I do on occasion make sure that my speed limiter is functioning correctly. Well I have a new to me 08XJR and it's time for tires. The 08 came with Dunlop Sport Maxx 20". I can live with a little less preformance. This time around I am looking for comfort and low noise level. Who makes a the quietest tire? I live in South Texas so snow is not an issue but do get a fair amount of rain.

Thanks in advance for the opinions

Brand is not the issue, contrary to many fiercely held opinions. Stay away from Summer High perf. tires of any brand. Yep, I noticed you are from S Texas. Watch your allingnment and bal. The car is very sensitive to unevenly worn tires. Go with brand name all season tires. They will usually have an anti noise component designed into the tread and the rubber compound suppresses noise as well.

You will get improved results with the above but 20" wheels are a limiting factor.

I went with the Pirelli 4 season P6 on 19" wheels with good results. The Michelin is the best tire out there in most all catigories according to all authoritive sources. But, they are very expensive.

Hope this helps.

Agree with the 19" are expensive.....so are 18's,
can't even imagine having to shell out for 20's or more....
I'd also agree that 20's are part of the problem, such a small amount
of rubber....
good luck

Hankook V12 Ventus is an exceptional tire in all categories with a good price tag. A friend just put them on his 06 Vanden Plas. Wish they made them in my tire size. I'll probably go with the Hankook V4 Ventus.

I am pretty much stuck with the 20". That was the stock wheel. I would think that All Season tires would be louder but I guess the research goes on. I probally have 5 or 6K left in the old ones. Thanks for the words. the Hankook seems to be coming up a lot in what I have read.

Hankook is now a recommended replacement tire by Jaguar. I just spoke with the service representative Friday about a new set. He recommends Michelin, Kumho and Hankook based on owner feedback.

The ContiProContacts on my SWB XJ8 having become deafeningly loud and prone to vibration. To look at the tread you would think they have 10,000 miles left. No cupping, feathering or uneven wear to speak of, but I am over them. I have found a special on Michelin Pilot HX MXM's for $779 installed and may go with that.

To 1 & All,

Don't forget. If your objective is low tire noise/roar early or late in a tires life" - do not install Summer Hi Perf tires". It will break your heart and vacuum up your bank acct. irrespective of what brand you choose. That's what this thread was all about to start with, not which tires deliver the best performance in sweeping turns at 100+ mph.

about 0.001% of my driving sweeping turns at a high rate of speed but most of the time I am locked in on cruise control kicking back and enjoing the nicest riding automobile I have ever owned so to be able to knock a few Db off that is my goal. thanks All
