Touchscreen failing?

Hi EsRay,
It would appear you have some delamination of the touch screen substrates.
There appears to be "bubbles" in the screen but not over the entirety of the LCD. Do you feel any deformity in the screen's surface?
Does the touch screen still work across the entire element?...No dead zones?
Has this gradually occurred over time, or has it suddenly appeared?
If gradual, then it might be exposure to repeated high temperatures and intense direct sunlight that may have caused a reaction of the bonding agents used between LCD panel layers.
If it has been a sudden manifestation, then it might be related to applying an incompatible cleaning product that has caused a bizarre reaction.
Understanding what may have caused the issue may help you avoiding a repeat, but sad to say the screen is probably requiring replacement whatever the cause as it most likely cannot be rehabilitated.
FYI, here is a general representation of the layers you generally find in the construction of a touch screen LCD.

A UK seller seems to have multiple Sat Nav units listed currently, you might need to confirm if they are the same part number as yours.
You might decide to just dismantle and transfer the screen assembly across to avoid any potential recoding that might be required if a full assembly swap out was done.

Mark, thanks for your reply.
I never realised just how complex a touch screen LCD was!
There are no 'deformities in the screen's surface and it functions perfectly throughout.
It came on quite suddenly and I have not used any solvents, etc to clean it...
Perhaps it just got fed up with sitting in my 50 degree C basement?

Yep, they are pretty complex for something we don't pay much attention to.
I've had to dismantle quite a few over the years to renew fluorescent tubes and fix other faults....fiddly work on laptops, but some have been in the main instrument cluster of buses that have no other repair strategy and won't pass roadworthy without being operational.
It certainly crossed my mind seeing your location that heat might be the factor there.
Does your car have a sunroof?
If the car is taken out in the beating sun, that might provide a more direct path for sunlight to directly strike the display and in those temperatures it might 'boil' the adhesives.
I don't imagine Dubai has many overcast days......

Mark,
I have owned my baby here for some 5 years. She does have a sunroof but she is garaged and when (for example) me 'n the wife are on the beach, she has a cover put over her if I cannot find shade...She is a super-spoiled baby!!
However, I think you are probably correct and heat in general has done for the screen over time...
I'll take a good look at the links you kindly provided; unfortunately, I always have to add 20 quid or so to whatever I buy for shipping

Yep...pretty spoiled alright.
Shipping is such a b*tch and has been since the pandemic struck.....
USPS paused postal deliveries to AUS and NZ quite some time ago because the logistics pathways dried up, so shipping anything out of the USA is problematic for us currently unless using UPS or Fedex which adds minimum of $100 to any purchase.
We do have an alternative NZ Post pathway called UShop, which acts as a US local collection depot, where we can ship local US to that location and it is then consolidated and forwarded to NZ.
UK is still fine for sending via royal mail, but costs certainly have gone up.
Good luck with your repair.

Yes Chris,
China, Singapore Hong Kong have remained pretty prompt. UK times wavered a bit for awhile but are pretty darn good.
I have a USA parcel that has bounced around the USA logistics hubs before reaching LA where it has sat stalled for coming up to 3 weeks going nowhere.
I have some more diagnostics to do on the aerial system before I have anything else to order for the X350 (which is running pretty nice currently).
Still have the trans fluid to get changed and not sure if I will dig into changing the plugs myself on this one. X-Type was pretty OK, but X350 looks to be a whole different pathway to success.

I realise this is a different subject, but I did not find changing the spark plugs all that difficult? The only real PITA is number 8, but if you remove the panel between the Brake Reservoir and the back of the engine, access is reasonable through there with 'wobbly' extensions?

Hi EsRay,
Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement......I haven't had this car very long, so I'm still getting familiar with it.
I'll pick up a set of plugs shortly and see how I go.
Probably one of those jobs you dread and then realize it wasn't so bad.
Going to have a dig into the C pillar this weekend to check out the radio amplifier module which seems to be temperamental in colder conditions.

I have a complete center screen/climate/radio from XJ8 for sale if you are interested; too bad that I have no idea how much shipping will be from USA. Another solution; I replaced my old mentioned setup with Tesla style 10 screen from Aliexpress. PM me and I can send the seller's direct info. But in summary it looks like this:
Let me know if you need further info. Installation isn't super hard either.
