Touchscreen Radio Button Preset "Titles"

OK here's another head-scratcher. The station preset buttons pick up "station ID" info, no doubt. But it seems to be random, or kind of dependent on the stations' submissions. So the song, and/or station info. is frequently way behind. For instance, the station button will list info. from a song that played yesterday, as the "ID" for that station.
So, the buttons will tell different stories, have different phrases they spell out. See attached picture for an interesting example:
Is there any way to decipher or control this mysterious decision making on the part of the touchscreen oracle?

The issue lies with the stations RDS feed which basically renders the function useless. WOuld be nice if there was a way to create custom tags but these systems are now obsolete and will never see further upgrades.
Have been tempted to hack the head unit...can't be that hard to change graphics and text.

There is a solution to this, I am trying to remember the steps.
There is a button combination that will turn RDS on and off, I just don't remember what it is.
Turn off RDS, then go and reset/re-save all of the stations. Their labels will be their frequency number. Once you have them all set, you can turn RDS back on, the labels will "stick" as long as you don't save them with RDS on.
