Default "Transmission fault" problems... Help!

I bought a beatiful 05 Jaguar XJ8 LWB from Florida and shipped it over to Norway. I had a lot of good time behind the wheels of the car, but also some small problems. Tonight, I had a bigger one. I was out driving and suddenly the message "transmission fault" was showing. The car then went into safety mode with "restricted performance" showing. Driving carefully back home, the car started shifting between different gears, in a rough way.

Earlier on, I've experienced that if I leave the car for a week or more, it will start with "restricted performance"-mode. I also had some small other messages showing, but they disappear quickly, like "No TCS", "vehicle to low", "airsuspension fault" among others.

Now, anyone got a clue on what is going on with the transmission? And any advice on what do to or what I need to check?

Thanks for any advice/help!

Try a new or different battery. We have seen XJs that get crazy with a battery low enough it can't properly support the electronics but good enough not to trigger the low battery warning.

The thing that gets my attention is your problem is worse after the car sets for a few days. We'll keep a good thought for you on this as it's an easy fix.

BTW how many miles on the car?

Thanks for a quick answer! Will check the battery today and change it if needed.

The car got 135k miles on it, but looks and works far better than most other cars with 1/4 of the mileage(here in Norway).

Thanks again!

Default Update! New battery installed, but still problems with the transmission..

Today I changed the battery and I just came back from testing the car. Now there are no messages about transmission fault, but it still runds in "restricted performance"-mode and the transmission does not work properly. If I try to accelerate moderate or hard, it starts shifting between to gears. Even when I had to start uphill, the transmission caused problems and the car jerked forward until I managed to go downhill again.

With only a little bit of acceleration the car runs OK, but as soon as the transmission has to handle some power it starts shifting gears and even go into neutral.

Anybody got some clues about whats wrong? Or what I should do?

Thanks for any advice!

You need to get the codes read which will give a starting point to finding out what is wrong.Scan with an OBD II scanner in the first instance.
