Transmission Fluid
Hello. I am new to the forum. It's nice. I am trying to help my dad with his 2004 XJ8. It has roughly 53,000 mi on it and I would like to check the integrity of the transmission fluid and possibly flush it for him if necessary. However, I can see no visible place to check the fluid. Can someone here very specifically direct me as to where the dipstick (or dipstick tube where a special tool may be required to measure like Mercedes Benz) is in order to check the fluid? Much appreciated!

RE: Transmission Fluid
Hmmm Thanks... As far as the location of the plug, where would that be? I take it that if fluid flows out of it at operating temp ifit is full and if not it needs fluid? If true, how to know when too full? Anyway, I would very much appreciate it if someone could refer me to where I would find the necessary info (location of plug, tranny data/info).I am more familiar with Mercedes and have never touched a Jag. Nice cars, but seem wicked to work on.

RE: Transmission Fluid
The plug is on the passenger side of box toward rear above the pan.
Fluid should dribble when at right temp. If flows, is overfull and if nothing comes out, need to add until it dribbles out.
I believe checking temp is 38 degrees celcius, but I need to look that up first.
