Default Transmission Issue

2004 XJ8 4.2L V8 FI DOHC Automatic.
I hear a loud "clunk" sometimes when the transmission shifts, anyone have any similar issues? Is there a history of tranny problems with this model?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

I suggest a quickie repost of the question in the X350 Tech section.

More people will see it in there, as compared to here, and answers will flow.

you already posted an intro so I've moved this from the New Member section to the X350/X358 section where you will get better response to your issues

I don't think there's such a history but you can Search and read to make sure.

I think your car will (should!) have 2 bolts holding the shifter cable to the trans side. Check they're present and not loose.

Beyond that... check fluid level / change fluid.

But before that check your fuel trims are sane. Even "minor" engine faults can upset the gear changes and thus the trans.
