transmission question
so after a big clunk sound when putting in to gear and gearbox fault on the dash and eml too, ive got car booked in for new oil pan and fluid change, next morning no clunk when selecting drive or reverse and thought all was well but in drive it seems to be stuck in 0ne gear , 3rd i think, so question is do i go ahead with the oil pan and fluid change or is it time to source a new gearbox ,?
many thanks in advance for any advice

Only 3rd means it's in 'limp home' mode. Are you going to a Jag agent, a Jag indy, or a general independent ?
Best would be a independent Jag agent, or a transmission specialist which services ZF6 transmissions.
It's not really possible what the problem is until it's had the fault codes (DTCs) read; they'll give some idea as to what's going on.

I think it's due a oil change at that mileage if the box is the same as the v8 the sleeve can leak and the plastic sump cracks and leaks and can cause a problem due to low oil . You do have a tough choice do you spend the money on a oil and filter change plus a re flash or just change the box you could end up changing the oil and you still need a box I think the first thing to do is check the oil level if your getting it done by a garage this will be the first thing they will do . But the garage will ask you which way you want them to proceed

transmission update.
So the problems i had with my gearbox have been solved,
EML has gone
gearbox fault warning on the dash is gone
transmission fluid, pan, filter and sleeve have all been done
the car now drives lovely with smooth almost unnoticeable gear shifting , what a difference.
i want to give a big shout out to lincs jag specialists for such an excellent job, they are an independant jag specialist based in lincoln in the uk and the two chaps there are both ex main jaguar main dealer trained technicians who really know their stuff, if your a jag owner and within travelling distance of lincoln then i would suggest its well worth the journey if you need anything doing.
