transmission shifting

First thing I'd do is change the transmission fluid and filter (unless you know for sure that it's been done in the last few years/ ,000 miles). For some years now ZF's official advice is to change the fluid every 50-75,000 miles, or 8 years (whichever occurs first).
I had mine changed at 78,000/9yrs and it cured some 'bumpiness' in shifts which was starting to become apparent.

I had the same symptoms on mine at 70,000 miles. I changed the transmission pan, fluid and all of the seals I could get to. The problem has now gone away. ZF recommended that I change the pressure regulators (Solenoids). Apparently the same solenoid handles 2nd and 6th gear. If the problem comes back, I will probably just replace the valve body with a rebuilt unit. You will tell a lot when you see the magnets inside the pan and the condition of the fluid. Post again when you know !
